Intern Diaries: The Benefits of Cleansing My Face Twice a Day

On a typical day, I wash my face twice: when I wake up and right before I go to bed. Since cleansing twice per day, I've seen drastic improvements in my skin and overall well-being. Everyone's skin is different, but as a general rule, cleansing twice a day is a great place to start.

In the morning, I wash my face to remove excess oils and residue that my skin has produced overnight or has picked up from my pillow. A clean face free of grime not only makes my skincare products absorb properly, but it also makes me feel good and ready for the day! Cleansing my face leaves my skin feeling super refreshed and clear. I especially love using a hydrating cleanser because it isn't harsh and doesn't irritate my skin, which is a healthy break from the products with benzoyl peroxide I often use at night.

While I'll sometimes skip my morning cleanse on busy days, I'll never skip on washing my face at night, no matter how tired I am. Throughout the day, dirt and other environmental gunk accumulates on skin, which can lead to breakouts and skin irritation. Skincare and makeup products applied in the morning must also be removed. As someone with oily/combination skin, I use the Seadrop Hydrating Seafoam Cleanser to balance my skin without stripping it of its natural oils. I find that in conjunction with my gentle morning cleanser, my skin can maintain its hydration while fighting against acne.

After my morning and nightly cleanse, I always moisturize. In the morning, I'll lather my face with a lightweight sunscreen; at night, I'll also use propolis mist and toner before I apply my pH balancing moisturizer. There's nothing better than starting the day with a fresh, hydrated face and ending the day feeling clean and purified!
